Condensed milk is something we often use when making desserts, cakes and homemade ice cream. Did you know that you can make this at home with just very few ingredients and in just very easy and simple steps? Here in Italy it's also pretty expensive, so let's save money making it together.
Condensed milk means that the milk has been cooked to remove the water, the same way you reduce broth or a sauce to concentrate the flavor. You can now skip the grocery to buy condensed milk, you can make your own ready in just 30 minutes, all you need arethese very common 3 ingredients. Enjoy baking!
INGREDIENTS
300g full-low fats milk (for best result use full/whole milk) 200g granulated sugar 5g cornstarch (optional) 1g (⅛tsp) vanilla white powder
PREPARATION
Step 1 In a saucepan pour the milk, then add the cornstarch (cornflour) and mix well until completely dissolved to avoid the formation of lumps. Add the sugar and mix
Step 2 Put the saucepan on the heat and heat the milk on medium fire, stirring often.
Step 3 When starting to be hot, add the vanilla powder. Make sure to use only vanilla white powder (optional)
Step 4 Bring to the boil then reduce the heat to low and continue cooking for 20-25 minutes until the mixture becomes creamy During cooking, you have to stir from time to time to prevent to stick the condensed milk on the bottom.
Step 5 When it has reached the right thickness, turn off the heat, and allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes. The density of condensed milk will increase as it cools down
TIPS AND TRICKS
Condensed milk is stored in glass jars or bottles for 15 days in the refrigerator.
